Madame Tussauds Visitors to Marvel Universe 4D can also meet their favorite superheroes and try their luck at Alien: Escape. But did you know there is a lot more work that goes on behind the scenes before any figure appears on display in the museum? Marie was born in Strasburg, France in 1761 and soon after moved with her mother to Switzerland where she learned the craft of wax modelling from Dr. Philippe Curtius - her employer at the time. By 1777, Marie had already created her first model - a sculpture of French philosopher Voltaire that was completed one year before his passing away. The French Revolution had seen much bloodshed, and Madame Tussaud soon began creating casts of guillotined heads. Each day she would visit the Madeleine cemetery to sort through the daily deposits of bodies, searching for the most intriguing ones. She would then craft a plaster cast of the head and place it in an attractive glass display case for all to admire. By this stage, her skills at wax-modelling had become so perfect that she even created a full-scale replica of George III for his Golden Jubilee celebrations in 1810. But she also struggled to keep up with the demands of her expanding business. After fleeing France during the Revolution, she fled to England and started doing wax shows in London in 1802. Here, she showcased everything from Revolutionary mementos and historical characters, to grisly remnants from notorious crimes.
