Beehive Tombs

These tombs were used throughout the Iron Age, and the UNESCO has designated them a World Heritage Site.
The beehive-shaped tombs are among the earliest archeological sites in Abu Dhabi, dating back to around 5000 BC. Their use as burial grounds demonstrates that the area was once a thriving trading center with Mesopotamia and India. These ancient graves have copper and ceramic vessels which are used to date the settlement. The Bronze Age in the UAE was a time of settling in the area.
The entrance to the tombs is accessible from the United Arab Emirates and Oman. Follow the dirt road to the Jebel Hafeet mountain, where you will pass camel farms and the tombs themselves. You'll need a 4x4 vehicle to reach them. There's also an abandoned fort, Mezyad, just five minutes away.
Road trip to Jebel Hafeet

The speed limit here is 160 km/h, compared to 140 km/h on other highways. From Al Ain, the drive is only thirty to forty minutes. Dubai, on the other hand, is slightly more than two hours away.
